The Date Difference tool is relatively simple in its use but can fuel a lot of use cases. It’s used to find the difference in number of seconds, minutes, hours, days, months or years between two dates.

The columns you use in the Date Difference tool must be formatted as a date/datetime. Use the Change Columns tool to change column formats.

You can use the Count Business Days tool to get the number of days between two dates while accounting for weekends and holidays

Configuration

The Date Difference tool has three required input.

Select the Latest Date

Select the column containing the latest/most recent date

Select the Comparison Date

Select the column with the date you want to compare with. Typically this is an earlier date.

Select Unit

Select the unit you want to measure the difference in. You can select one of the following:

  • Seconds
  • Minutes
  • Hours
  • Days
  • Months
  • Years

When To Use

The usage of Date Difference is somewhat self-explanatory - every time you need a two understand the duration between two events, the Date Difference tool is your go-to:

  • Find the number of days from an invoice is sent to it is paid
  • Understand how many hours it takes from an order is placed to it is sent
  • Understand how many months a customers has been a client of yours
  • Find the number of days since a customer last made a purchased or logged in to your product
