# Claude Desktop

> Connect Less to Claude Desktop and add the Less skill.

Connecting Less to Claude Desktop has two parts:

1. **The connector** - adds the Less MCP tools so Claude can reach your
   workspace.
2. **The skill** - teaches Claude *when and how* to combine those tools for
   common jobs. Optional, but recommended.

<Note>
  You need a Less API key first. See [Get a bearer token](/mcp/api-key).
</Note>

## 1. Add the connector

Point Claude Desktop at the Less MCP endpoint and authenticate with your API
key.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open connector settings">
    In Claude Desktop, open **Settings → Connectors** and choose **Add custom
    connector**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the Less endpoint">
    Name it `Less` and use the URL:

    ```
    https://<your-workspace-host>/api/mcp
    ```

    The default workspace host is `app.less.tech`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Authenticate">
    Select "No sign-in" and instead click "+ Add header" under the request headers.

    TheHeader name should be `Authorization`and the value should be:

    ```
    Bearer <YOUR_API_KEY>
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save and confirm">
    Save the connector. Claude lists the Less tools once it connects.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## 2. Add the skill

The skill lives in the public [Less skills repository](https://github.com/LessTechRepo/skills).

<Steps>
  <Step title="Download the repository">
    On GitHub, choose **Code → Download ZIP** and unzip it - or clone it:

    ```bash theme={null}
    git clone https://github.com/LessTechRepo/skills.git
    ```

    The skill is the folder `less/skills/less-workspace` (it contains a
    `SKILL.md` and a `references/` folder).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add it to Claude">
    In Claude Desktop, open **Settings → Skills** and add the
    `less-workspace` folder. Enable it once it appears.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Try it

Ask Claude something that needs your workspace:

```
What tables in my workspace hold monthly order history?
```

```
What failed in the last 7 days, and why?
```

Claude resolves the assets through Less, runs the analysis, and links back to
the app. It will only start a run if you explicitly ask it to.
